Hyperbaric oxygen
therapy is a mode of therapy in which the patient breathes 100%
oxygen at pressures greater than normal atmospheric
(sea level) pressure. In contrast with attempts to force
oxygen into tissues by topical applications at levels
only slightly higher than atmospheric pressure, hyperbaric
oxygen therapy involves the systemic
delivery of oxygen at levels 2-3 times greater than
atmospheric pressure.

Although the application of compressed
gas in medicine had its origins centuries ago, it is
only in the last 40 years that good science has existed
to support some of its current applications. As of now,
there are at least 508 hyperbaric services in USA ,
25 in England , 8 in Australia , 6 in Malaysia and many
more around the world. This is probably an underestimate.
For the recognized and accepted conditions, they are
fully re-imbursible by medical insurance; training in
USA is also formalized and accredited by the medical
board.

namely multiple place (for more
than one person) and monoplace chambers
for single occupancy.
